Add a file to the Extension website
This article applies to the UME Drupal 8 website only. For the AGNR or Department Websites, refer to the AGNR website training video.
These instructions will help you upload a PDF and link to it on your website. These steps will also work for Word Documents, Excel files, and some other file types.
If you have not yet done so, please review the AGNR PDF and Document Policy to ensure your file is appropriate for website presentation.
Once you’re certain that your file is ready to go online, here’s how you can make it happen.
Part 1: Upload the file to the Media Library
In the Toolbar, go to Content > Media > Add Media > File
Give the file a descriptive name (Something you might search for later. This will also be used as a tooltip when visitors hover over links to the file.)
In the “File” field, upload the file from your computer.
Save.
Part 2: Create a link to the file
Go to the Drupal page where you’d like to link to this file, and open the page for editing.
In any WYSIWYG text area, select the text that you want linked to the file.
Click the Linkit icon
In the URL field, search for the descriptive name you just gave your file.
You should find it in the “Media – File” section of the results, which will be near the bottom.
Click it, and the URL field will populate with the internal path to your document.
Click Save.
You should be returned to the WYSIWYG, where the text has been converted to a link.
Save or Preview the page, and check that your link is working as expected!
